Meander is an AI voice typing app for Linux, Windows, and Android. You press a keyboard shortcut, speak, and clean text lands at your cursor in whatever app has focus. Here are the questions we get most.
Frequently asked questions
What is Meander?
Meander is a hold-to-talk dictation tool. You press a shortcut, speak, and release. Your words are transcribed, cleaned up by an AI pass that fixes punctuation, filler words, and phrasing, and then typed straight in at your cursor. There's no window to switch to and no copy-paste step.
Does Meander work on Linux?
Yes. Meander ships for Linux as both an AppImage and a .deb, and it works on modern desktops including Wayland (GNOME, KDE, COSMIC). On Wayland you bind Meander's command-line trigger to a keyboard shortcut in your desktop settings. It also runs on Windows and Android, with the same account across all three.
Is Meander free?
Yes. The Basic plan is free forever and gives you 3,000 words a week. New accounts also get a 14-day Pro trial. Paid plans are Pro at $9.99/month and Ultimate at $19.99/month for higher limits and more features.
Which languages does Meander support?
Meander handles 100 languages. It's built with extra care for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, where word-for-word transcription tends to break down, so the output reads the way a native speaker would actually write it.
Can Meander translate while I dictate?
Yes. In translate mode you speak one language and Meander types another. Say something in Chinese and get clean English at your cursor, without opening a separate translator or copying text back and forth.
Does Meander work offline?
No. Meander streams your audio for real-time transcription and AI processing on its servers, and it doesn't store recordings. If you need fully on-device processing, a local-only tool is a better fit today.
Is my voice data private?
Meander ships with no third-party API keys baked into the app. You sign in through everydays.tools and requests run through Meander's own proxy, so there are no keys to leak or configure. Recordings aren't stored after they're transcribed.
How is Meander different from Wispr Flow, superwhisper, or Typeless?
The short version: Meander runs on Linux and Android, not just Mac and Windows; it uses one account across every platform; and translation plus strong Chinese, Japanese, and Korean support are built in. We wrote full comparisons for Wispr Flow, superwhisper, and Typeless.
Does Meander run on Mac or iOS?
Not yet. Today Meander is on Linux, Windows, and Android. If you're on Apple hardware, the comparison pages above cover tools that do.
Can I customize how it cleans up my text?
Yes. Meander has dictation modes, each with its own cleanup style, prompt, and output language, and you switch between them with a shortcut. Pick from the built-in templates or write your own prompt for a mode.
